Ken Blanchard

Go out and buy a copy of the Ken Blanchard book we covered in the module 'Self Leadership and the one Minute Manager: Increase effectiveness through situational self leadership'. This particular copy is only available in hard back (its not the green cover, it's white) Copies are available through AMAZON and start at €8.45 to €15.91 if you want a new one! Go on treat yourself for Christmas!

If you wanted to experiment a little with leadership styles and situations at your hotel in the new year this book will go into more detail about the situational leadership model we used in the Horizons Module. Its a really great buy and if you have never experienced Ken Blanchard's parable writing style you will be in for a treat at how easy and accessible key management skills can be gained. It will take you know more than a return Ryanair trip to read!

Ken Blanchard has a website worth looking at for your ongoing personal development www.kenblanchard.com

Dr Stephen Covey

Another life and leadership guru that you have notes on in your pack, but we did not cover in the module is Stephen Covey. The notes in the pack link to Covey's earth shifting book '7 habits of highly Effective People'. This book was first published in 1989 and he is still speaking about it's contents today.

The book is a really good read but you will have to be in a more focused mind this time than the lighter style of Ken Blanchard. This book lasks you to ook at yourself and how to make a personal change to become more effective as a person and on a work level your leadership abilities.

In terms of EI and your self awareness this book is a real journey and I would treat it as such. Don't be surprised if your current beliefs, values and understandings are challenged.  Covey's deep and open style encourages you to look very closely at yourself and you may feel sometimes it has an almost 'religious' values' under tone.

The book is currently on Amazon from €5.04 to €11.92 if you want a new copy. Make sure you get the right book as Covey has now a number of 'Habits' books for different groups.

Stephen Covey has a website www.stephencovey.com which if you join has some videos to watch that will give you a flavor for the style and feeling of his writing.

Approach these two authors with the thought: Remember some thing are meant to make you feel uncomfortable!
